We Are Satellite Towers

On tuning your nervous system, emotional frequencies, and the art of feeling everything.

I've come to a frightening conclusion: we are satellite towers. Every emotion carries a frequency, measured in Hertz like a radio wave. If emotion is energy on a continuum, our ability to experience awe and joy is directly tied to the maintenance we perform on our nervous system tower. Doom scrolling and binge-watching flatten our senses. We know this. We feel this.

Low Frequencies Aren't the Enemy

The more fear or denial I had around naming a feeling, the stronger the compulsive drive to outrun it. But when I simply acknowledged, accepted, and observed the emotion with curiosity, it discharged. A friend once told me: "Letting go isn't opening your hands to drop something. It's letting the entire current of that emotional signal flow through you."

To dull fear is to dull courage. To avoid sorrow is to elude joy.

Maintenance Is Mundane and Miraculous

Tuning my receiver began with tiny, unsexy choices: sleeping without a screen, walking first thing in the morning, unplugging the caffeine IV, writing every day, calling a friend. When sadness arose, "I am sad" became: "I am observing and experiencing sadness."
